The song “I Can’t Breathe” By H.E.R was created at the time of George Floyd's death. George Floyd passed from a white police officer pressing his knee in his neck cutting off his air circulation. The video went viral and millions of people were outraged with what they saw. In the video Mr. Floyd repeated the three words “I Can’t Breathe” to get the officer to remove his knee from his neck but the officer ignored him each time. The song talks about how the same crimes against black people are still continuing to be done and it's taking our life and our breath on a daily basis. The governmental system was made to paint black people as the enemy and we continue to hope for change but they can never view us as equal even though we're supposed to be one nation but were split into two. America is the land of the free but only half of us is free from the torment while the rest has to wallow in fear of our lives to be taken for death to be on the other side of the door we walk through everyday. Throughout the whole song H.E.R speaks on the corruption of America and how our freedom isn’t really freedom.  ~ Anaya Spencer
